Summer is finally in full swing, and you’re ready to make the most of these hot, sunny days.  Along with following a healthy diet and exercise regimen, you’re interested in undergoing cosmetic procedures that can help contour your body and shed stubborn fat pockets.

For many patients, this means undergoing treatments like liposuction and Cellfina, an FDA-approved procedure that minimizes the appearance of cellulite on the thighs and buttocks.  But many patients wonder if it’s possible to combine these two treatments together, or if one should be scheduled before the other.  With that in mind…

Is it better to get Cellfina before a liposuction treatment?

The answer is, it depends.  If you’re looking to undergo liposuction to treat fat deposits around your buttocks and thighs, it might be worth trying Cellfina first to see if it delivers the results you’ve been looking for.  Cellfina uses micro-needling technology to break up collagen bands that form and push fat deposits up to the surface of the skin.  Once the bands are broken up, the pressurized fat is immediately released, resulting in a noticeable decrease in dimpling.

If, however, you’re looking into using liposuction to treat other areas of the body – like the stomach, love handles, arms, etc. – your plastic surgeon will recommend undergoing liposuction first before doing any other treatment.  Usually, you’ll have to wait until you’re fully healed from your liposuction surgery before doing another treatment (in this case, Cellfina).

If you’re still on the fence about which treatment you should try first, and you’re specifically focused on reducing the appearance of cellulite, it’s recommended that you try Cellfina first.
